Flood-risk areas

Following the floods of spring 2017, some citizens are asking the Municipality if they are located in the 20-year floodplain. This information is particularly important in the current context, while the Government of Quebec is using this information to determine whether it is possible to rebuild or not after a flood.

It is important to know that the limits of the 20-year floodplain have been integrated for more than 25 years in the urban planning bylaw of the Municipality of Pontiac. The map to facilitate visualization was incorporated into the regulation following a public consultation held in May 2016. It is available here (zoom in if necessary):

You can also contract the Municipality’s Urban Planning Department (819-455-2401) to obtain this information.

But you may simply check your location certificate. Since at least 2002, Quebec land surveyors are required to indicate systematically on the location certificate when the property is located in a flood-risks area.
